Is your Home Secure?

Is your Home Secure?

Is your home secure? Make sure it is in 5 easy steps!

Our most valuable personal possessions usually reside in our homes, and the quality of our security system is what helps to keep them safe – not to mention the safety of our families as well.  But how can we ensure that our homes are secure?  Follow our 5 step guide!

  1. Secure doors

Around 33% of intruders enter through the front door of the house they’re targeting.  To ensure that all of your doors are secure, make sure the door frames are sturdy, the wood is not hollow, and the hinges are protected.  If your door has a mail slot, ensure that someone can’t reach through and unlock the door. The front door can be a focal point of your house, but don’t settle for one that lacks essential security. A peephole or a deadlock will help to make the front door even more secure.

  1. Secure windows

Now your doors are secure, what about the windows?  Did you know around 20% of break-ins occur through ground floor windows? The latches manufacturers place on windows can be flimsy and aren’t always effective at keeping intruders out. Replace them with key-operated levers or window locks to help keep your property secure.

  1. Security system

All homes should have some form of security system, whether it’s a basic DIY installation or a fully monitored smart system. To determine what sort of system you’re comfortable with, Gronbek can help you decide. A basic security system to consider would include an alarm and motion sensors for the doors and windows.

  1. Security signs

If you don’t feel that your home needs a security system, but you still want to deter intruders, consider security signs.  Sometimes the idea that you have a security system inside is enough of a deterrent to thieves.

  1. Motion lighting

Have a dark spot outside your house, but don’t want the lights on all night?  Consider motion lighting that will not only help you get inside at night without having to fumble for your keys in the dark but will also help to spotlight anyone who is trying to break in.
